Do No Harm

Community guidelines

Random Opportunities for Kindness only works if every person on the network is operating in good faith. These are the rules we hold ourselves and each other to.

Real acts only

Record kindness you actually did. Made-up acts and reposts aren't kindness, they're noise — they dilute the network for everyone.

Consent comes first

If your act involves another person — a photo, a name, a story — get their permission before posting. Especially if minors are involved.

Privacy by default

Don't share other people's locations, contact info, or private details. Don't share images of people who didn't agree to be on the platform.

No promotion or solicitation

ROK isn't a marketing channel. Don't use acts of kindness as a vehicle for selling products, promoting brands, or asking for donations to your own causes.

Nothing harmful, hateful, or unsafe

Hate speech, harassment, threats, and any content that endangers a person or community will be removed. We err on the side of safety.

Protect young people

Users under 13 can't sign up directly without parent or guardian consent. Teen users are nudged toward usernames over real names. Don't post anything that identifies a minor.

Generosity over points

The score is a side effect of doing good, not the point. If you're optimizing for points instead of for people, you're using the platform wrong.

What happens when guidelines are broken?

Our auto-flagging tools catch obvious issues at submission time. Anything that slips through can be reviewed by our moderators, who can remove a post and — in repeat or severe cases — remove the account. Removed posts don't count toward anyone's points. We'll always tell you what was removed and why.
