Some of the most meaningful Ripples of Kindness™ begin with one person who believes in an idea and helps it grow into something extraordinary. For Melanie Buttarazzi, that person was Peter Samuelson, Co-Founder of Ripples of Kindness (ROK). Today, her journey is a beautiful example of how passion, the arts, and a little encouragement can create lasting change in the lives of young people.
We’re proud to recognize her as a ROK Champion of Kindness™ and celebrate her as the first-ever recipient of ROK’s “Making a Splash” recognition, honoring individuals who go above and beyond to spread Kindness and make a difference.

Melanie has dedicated her work to bringing dance and the transformative power of the arts to foster youth. What began as an idea has grown into an impactful program that has reached more than 350 schools across Los Angeles County and Riverside.
Through dance, Melanie helps young people:
Find creative expression
Build confidence
Experience the joy of movement
Her work reflects a simple but powerful belief: every child deserves opportunities to explore their potential, discover their strengths, and feel supported. Behind that impact is a story of someone who believed in her vision from the beginning.

Recently, Melanie had the pleasure of performing at the ribbon-cutting ceremony for Together California, a newly built village of homes in Palmdale designed to keep foster siblings together. Co-founded by actor Christian Bale, the project provides a place where siblings in foster care can grow up together and experience a greater sense of stability and belonging.
As a proud partner of Together California, Melanie and her team will bring dance programs to the village's youth this fall.
During the celebration, Melanie found herself thinking about Peter Samuelson, the first person who took a chance on her idea of bringing dance to foster youth. She reflected on how Peter believed in her vision and understood the power of the arts to transform lives. Looking around at the ceremony and the community coming together to support children, she felt an overwhelming sense of gratitude for the partnership they have shared over the years.

Melanie's story is a reminder that Kindness is not always about grand gestures. Sometimes, it starts with:
Believing in someone's potential
Supporting an idea
Opening a door that might otherwise remain closed
Peter's early support helped Melanie turn her vision into a program that has touched thousands of young lives. And now, through new partnerships like Together California, that Ripple of Kindness continues to grow.
That's what ROK is all about. Every act of Kindness has the potential to inspire another, creating a ripple effect that reaches far beyond its starting point.

Because every ROK starts a ripple, and that ripple could change someone's world.
