What a group is

A group is a school, club, faith community, nonprofit or team on ROK. When you join one, the acts of kindness you post count toward that group as well as toward you.

Find a group

In the app

  1. Step 1: Open the More tab and tap Groups & partners.
  2. Step 2: Tap Find a group.
  3. Step 3: Search by name or town, then tap a group to open its page.

On the website

  1. Step 1: Go to Groups.
  2. Step 2: Search by name or town.
  3. Step 3: Click a group to open its page.

A group marked Approval needed has an organizer who approves each new member. Once you've joined or asked, the list shows Joined, Requested or Invited instead.

Good to know: Invite-only groups aren't in the list. To join one, ask its organizer to invite you.

Join from the group page

Read Before you join first. It explains what joining shares: the group's name goes on the acts you post, and other members can see your public name and your act count (unless you've turned off Show me on the leaderboard). Organizers never see your email.

What you tap next depends on how the group lets people in:

  • Join group: an open group. You're in right away.
  • Request to join: the organizer approves each person. You'll see Request pending until they do.
  • Invite only: you can't join on your own. Ask the organizer to invite you by your @username.

When an organizer invites you, you'll get a notification. You join once you accept.

In the app

On the group's page, tap Accept invitation or Decline. Invites also show in your list under Groups & partners.

On the website

On the group's page, click Accept or Decline. You can also answer under Groups in your Account.

How your acts count

When you post an act, a switch called Count this toward your groups is on by default. (If you're in just one group, it shows that group's name.) Leave it on and the act counts for every group you're an active member of, all at once. Turn it off to keep one act personal.

You earn the same points either way. The group's own totals go up as well.

Some groups set up their own acts, like “Trail Cleanup.” While the switch is on, you'll see them above the usual categories, with a short description. A number such as “25 to group” counts toward the group's goal only. You still earn your usual 10 points.

Good to know: This is decided when you post. Acts you posted before joining a group don't count for it, and you can't change an act's groups later.

More than one group

You can join as many groups as you like. Each act you post counts for all of them at once.

Some groups have sub-groups, like a college and its chapters. A sub-group's page says Part of and the parent group's name. A parent's page says Parent group and lists its sub-groups with what they've done together.

Joining a sub-group doesn't make you a member of the parent group. Join each group you want to be part of.

Good to know: Some parent groups allow only one of their sub-groups per member. If so, the sub-group's page tells you before you join. To switch, leave the one you're in (or cancel your request) first.

Leave a group or cancel a request

In the app

  1. Step 1: Open More, tap Groups & partners, then tap the group.
  2. Step 2: Tap Leave group. If you're still waiting to be approved, tap Cancel request.
  3. Step 3: Confirm.

On the website

  1. Step 1: Open the group's page.
  2. Step 2: Click Leave group. If you're still waiting to be approved, click Cancel request.

You can also do this under Groups in your Account, with Leave or Cancel.

Acts you post after leaving won't count for that group. Acts you already posted stay in its totals.

Questions

Do my acts count for every group I'm in?
Yes. With Count this toward your groups on, one act counts for every group you're an active member of. A request that's still waiting, or an invite you haven't accepted, doesn't count yet.
Why can't I find a group in the list?
It may be invite-only, which keeps it out of the list. Or it may still be waiting for ROK's approval. Ask the organizer for the group's link or QR code.
