Find an opportunity
Get Involved lists volunteer opportunities posted by groups on ROK. Some are one-time, like a Saturday cleanup. Others are ongoing.
In the app
- Step 1: Open the More tab and tap Get Involved.
- Step 2: Search, or filter by One-time, Ongoing, Remote or a category.
- Step 3: Tap an opportunity to see the details.
On the website
- Step 1: Go to Get Involved.
- Step 2: Search, or filter by One-time, Ongoing, Remote or a category.
- Step 3: Click an opportunity to see the details.
Each one shows When, Where and how many Volunteers are needed, plus the group that posted it. A group's own page lists its opportunities under Ways to help.
Good to know: Some opportunities are for a group's members only. They aren't on Get Involved. Members find them under Ways to help on the group's page.
- Step 1: Open the opportunity.
- Step 2: If you want, tap + Add a note for the organizer.
- Step 3: Tap I'll volunteer.
You'll see You're volunteering. You need a ROK account and must be signed in, but you don't need to be in the group to sign up for a public opportunity.
Have a question? Many opportunities list a way to reach the organizer under Questions? Contact the organizer.
Plans changed? Open the opportunity and tap Can't make it.
Keep track of your sign-ups
In the app
Open More and tap My volunteering. It lists what's Upcoming and what you've Volunteered for.
On the website
Open the Volunteering tab in your Account. It lists what's Upcoming and what you've Volunteered for.
After you volunteer
When the organizer marks you as attended, ROK posts an act of kindness for you in the Volunteering category, saying you volunteered at that event. You earn the usual points for an act, the act counts toward the group that posted the opportunity, and you get a notification. The opportunity then says You volunteered — thank you!
Good to know: If the organizer undoes your attendance, that act is removed and its points are taken back.
Post an opportunity (organizers)
Group organizers post opportunities from Opportunities in their group dashboard: the Opportunities tab of the organizer dashboard on the website, or + New under Opportunities on the app's Manage group screen.
- Step 1: Open your dashboard and choose Opportunities. If you run more than one group, pick the group first.
- Step 2: Click New.
- Step 3: Add a title and What volunteers will do. Pick the Type of volunteering, and set Volunteers needed if you want a limit.
- Step 4: Choose One-time (with start and end times) or Ongoing (with a note like “Every Saturday, 9–11am”).
- Step 5: Add a place, or tick This is a remote / virtual opportunity.
- Step 6: Add how volunteers can reach you. These details show on the opportunity.
- Step 7: Under Who can see this, pick Everyone (public) or Members only.
- Step 8: Click Post opportunity.
You'll get a notification when someone signs up. Each opportunity in your list has Edit, Close signups (and Reopen) and Cancel event. Cancelling lets everyone who signed up know.
Mark who came (organizers)
In the app
- Step 1: Open your group's page and find the event under Ways to help.
- Step 2: Tap it. As the organizer, you'll see a Volunteers list.
- Step 3: Tap Mark attended next to each person who came.
Good to know: Your group's page keeps showing your opportunities after you close sign-ups, marked Closed, so you can still mark who came. Members only see the ones that are open.
On the website
- Step 1: In Opportunities, click Signups under the event.
- Step 2: Click Mark attended next to each person who came.
Each person you mark gets an act of kindness and points, credited to your group. You can only mark people who signed up. Made a mistake? Tap Attended again to undo it. That removes the act and takes the points back.
Questions
- Do I have to join the group to volunteer?
- Not for a public opportunity. A members-only opportunity is just for that group's active members.
- What if the opportunity is full?
- Once it has as many volunteers as it needs, it says This event is full. and no one else can sign up.
- Can organizers post opportunities in the app?
- Yes. On the Manage group screen, tap + New under Opportunities. Each opportunity there has Edit, Close signups (or Reopen) and Cancel event, and Signups opens the list where you mark who came.
