Where ROK calls home

Ripples of Kindness is run by Kindness Worldwide, a nonprofit based in York, Pennsylvania. ROK is open to everyone, everywhere, and York County is home.

This guide covers the local side of ROK: the Give Local York Kindness Challenge, putting your acts on the map, finding groups near you, and ways to help close to home.

The Give Local York Kindness Challenge

From Jan 1 – Apr 30, 2027, York County nonprofits and their supporters count acts of kindness together on ROK, with Give Local York. The public standings rank nonprofits, not people.

  1. Step 1: Open the challenge page and find a nonprofit you care about. The list is called Taking part before Jan 1 and Standings after.
  2. Step 2: Open its group and tap Join group (or Request to join).
  3. Step 3: Post your acts of kindness during the challenge. Each act that counts is worth 10 challenge points, shared equally among the taking-part nonprofits you've joined.

Good to know: Acts count only after you join. Your personal points and your Ripple Pond work exactly as before.

You can also find the nonprofits in Groups: tap the Give Local York nonprofits filter. The full rules, including which acts count, are on How challenge points work.

Run a York County nonprofit? Nonprofits registered with Give Local York for 2027 are listed on the challenge page. If yours is registered but not listed, or it already has its own group on ROK, email ROK@KindnessWorldwide.org.

Put York County on the map

An act appears on the map only if it has a location. That's either the ZIP code typed on the act, or your profile ZIP if you share your location.

  1. Step 1: Start a new act: tap Record in the app, or choose Record Act on the website.
  2. Step 2: Under Location, set Country to United States.
  3. Step 3: In Postal code, type the York County ZIP code where you did the act.
  4. Step 4: Post the act. It lights up over York County on the Kindness map.

If you share your location, the form fills in your profile ZIP for you. You can change it to where the act happened. To share it, turn on Show me on the kindness map in your account settings, or make your profile public.

Tip: Forgot the ZIP? Open your act, choose Edit, and add it.

Good to know: Lights show approximate areas by ZIP code, never addresses.

For the rest of the posting form, see Post an act of kindness.

Find York County groups

In the app

Tap More → Groups & partners → Find a group.

On the website

Open Groups.

Search by name or town, like York, Hanover or Red Lion. You can also type a ZIP code, like 17403. Results show each group's town when it has one, so you can tell York, PA from New York.

Open a group to see what it does, then tap Join group or Request to join. Once you're in, the acts you post count toward the group too. See Join a group.

Don't see your school, club or congregation? You can start a group for it. See Run a group.

Volunteer close to home

Groups on ROK post volunteer opportunities, one-time or ongoing, in Get Involved. Search by town to find ones near you.

In the app

Tap More → Get Involved.

On the website

Open Get Involved.

What's listed depends on what groups have posted, so check back now and then. For how signing up works, see Volunteer opportunities.

Kindness Week Worldwide, close to home

Kindness Week Worldwide runs Nov 7–14, 2026, around World Kindness Day on Friday, Nov 13. Every act you post that week counts on its own board. It's a good week to do something kind in your own neighborhood and post it with a York County ZIP.

Questions

Does the map show where I live?
No. Lights sit on a ZIP code area, never an address. And an act only goes on the map with a ZIP typed on the act, or your profile ZIP if you choose to share your location.
Why isn't my act on the map?
It may have no location. Open the act and choose Edit to add a ZIP code.
Do my acts count for Give Local York automatically?
No. Join the group of a nonprofit taking part first. Acts you post after that, during the challenge, count for it.
Do I have to live in York County?
No. What matters is the ZIP code on the act. Anyone who does something kind in York County can put it on the map there.
